The PSL, at a media conference announced that it had awarded its broadcast rights to SuperSport for the 2012/2013 to the 2016/2017 seasons, following a tender process. SuperSport is the rights holder of the PSL rights for the current cycle, which expires at the end of the 2011/2012 season.

SuperSport was awarded the composite package, which includes all broadcast rights packages made available by the PSL.

A feature of the award is that, for the first time rights have been awarded by the PSL on a platform-neutral basis with immediate effect. This means that PSL content will be available on both mobile and internet platforms as of the current season.

Imtiaz Patel, the Group CEO of Multichoice South Africa said “SuperSport is humbled by the fact that the partnership with the PSL continues, it is a clear sign of the mutual respect the two organisations have for each other and the confidence that the PSL has in SuperSport as a partner”. “We have once again made a substantial investment in a product that is immensely popular and is skillfully and professionally managed and packaged”, he added.
